I'm Georgia, and I'm a 25 year old professional from Melbourne.
In September of this year I will be joining a group of volunteers to work for four weeks in the remote district of Tarime, Tanzania.
How did this come to be, you may ask? Lately I've come to realise that my life lacks a bit of meaning, and that there is so much more to this big bad world than the daily grind.
I've supported the Peter Hewitt Care for Africa Foundation for a few years now, and I felt that I didn't want to just donate money, but I also wanted to give my time. As I get older, I've come to realise that time is invaluable- it just keeps going and you can't get it back.
Myself and a team of volunteers will work towards providing rural healthcare, clean water, social enterprise programs and education in Tarime. This includes:
· Rural school health clinics, education programs, mentor programs with the Tarime District Hospital
· Teacher scholarships, teach the teacher program and child sponsorship
· Drilling deep water wells and delivering WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) programs
· Supporting community aquaculture, Surubu Bee Keeping, Breakfast Program and the Mtana Women’s Sewing group.
Care for Africa works in six communities throughout Tarime which do not have access to electricity, clean water or sanitation and receive no assistance from any other charitable or aid organisations. I aim to raise $3000- Most of what is raised will be donated to the foundation, but anything left over will cover vaccinations and living expenses.
