Help Bring My Grandson Home

It is with a humble heart that I am resorting to this site to help raise attorney fees for my daughter and grandson.
My grandson, a Marine vet who served in Afghanistan, suffered a traumatic brain injury on June 8th of this year. He is now in a facility for special care in New Britain, CT. He was doing well with therapies and was eating solid food and participating in physical therapy. His brain was making new pathways and his progress was good.
A couple of weeks after entering the hospital, he spiked a fever of 107 degrees and suffered more brain damage. This time it affected his brain stem and he lost all of the progress he had made.
My daughter is fighting for conservatorship of her son so she can bring him home to care for him. At this point, he does not respond to any hospital staff at all. She is the ONLY one he responds to. The therapists have given her the tools that they use so she can continue to work with him on her own in hopes that she may be able to help restore some of his lost progress.
The doctor and staff feel it is in his best interest for her to bring him home where he’ll feel comfortable enough to proceed with therapy, and where his quality of life will be greater than it will be in a nursing facility.
My grandson has an appointed attorney who has done very little on his behalf. We are told, everywhere we turn, that we need to get another attorney. To privately get one, we need a retainer up front. The family has contributed some money, but unfortunately the retainer fees are more than what has been raised so far.
We are forever grateful to our friends and family for all of the support you’ve given us so far. Your thoughts, prayers and all of the positive energy you’ve sent our way have helped more than you’ll probably ever know. This has been incredibly difficult for all of us, and we’ve still got a long way to go.
