On February 6, 2017 Kelly was diagnosed with stage 2 rectal cancer with a medium tumor. She learned this just 3 and a half months after her husband was diagnosed with kidney cancer.
Kelly has health insurance but the non-covered medical bills have started to come in and they havent stopped. She has to wear a life vest because she was born with a congenital heart defect requiring numerous open heart surgeries and leaving her with a complicated ICD that is in place to deliver a shock to her heart if needed. The life vest that she needs to wear 24/7 is $1700 a month that insurance won't pay.
Kelly's constant need for medical attention has taken her out of the workforce. In one year, she and her husband have gone from a two income family to her husband being the sole bread winner with mounting medical bills while going through his own battle with kidney cancer.
Kelly has had chemo and radiation and now her only option and hope is surgery. Kelly's most recent trip to the doctor was on June 7th when she learned the tumor is still present. She has been referred to a surgeon.
She has no feeling on her right side from all the scar tissue from the numerous surgeries replcaing the ICD device. Kelly can't lift anything or drive and has to rely on friends to take the girls to and from all activities and her to her doctor appointments.
Why does Kelly keep fighting? Kelly is a mother of two beautiful, healthy daughters ages 10 and 7. She is a wife to her husband Joe for almost 15 years and has a beautiful identical twin sister, Kari, who feels her pain every single day.
