Guy Nichols, father of 3 daughters and a son, dedicated 30 years of his life to public service and now urgently needs some help.
Unfortunately, those 30 years were spread out across counties and cities rendering him in a position without pension or ongoing medical benefits to help with his current condition.
My father is too humble to reach out for the help needed so I, his son, am reaching out to our family and friends on his behalf. He has no insurance and does not qualify for Medicaid, Medicare, or private insurance and we are out of options.
He served honorably as a volunteer firefighter, volunteer EMS in Harris County, law enforcement for Alvin Community College, Alvin PD, Seabrook PD, Alvin PD again where he established a charter for PAL (police activities league) to help troubled youth, and then served as an elected Constable for two consecutive terms.
Last week while working private security at a prestigious school in the Houston area, he left work not feeling well and was admitted to the ER with a 185 resting heart rate and then promptly transferred to ICU. Thankfully, he has since been transferred out of ICU however, the cardiologist states that his heart is functioning at about 20% of the normal rate and he will require a Life Vest, Oxygen treatment, 3 different prescriptions, and is being recommended to be placed on social security disability. That's a tough pill to swallow for a 57 year old that has dedicated his life to public service and unable to claim benefits for the countless lives he has helped.
We are trying to raise $75,000 to cover his medical expenses for the ER stay, a Life Vest (defibrillator), and follow up care until he can either be cleared to work, completes the lengthy process for disability, or get insurance coverage if possible. We are worried the hospital will discharge him without the needed life saving equipment unless we rapidly raise the funding required.
Any gift you are willing to spare, even if only $1, is greatly appreciated! I'd sure love for my dad to be around for quite a few more years to have the opportunity to come out of this and the opportunity to meet his grandchildren one day.
