Fighter in the Making!

Hey guys!

I am trying to raise money to fund a year long membership to Team Link Training Center (http://www.teamlinkmuaythai.com), an incredible martial arts academy in Worcester, MA where I would focus on training in Muay Thai.

I had always had some interest in martial arts growing up, but never sought any outlet for exploring them until recently. I had the opportunity to try out a new local facility that was offering Mixed Martial Arts, Muay Thai, and Jiu Jitsu for a dirt cheap starting price. What I did not anticipate was that I would absolutely fall in love with martial arts. I also did not anticipate the facility to end its martial arts program today (6/12/13) for an undetermined period of time.

Now, 8 weeks into my training, I have been brought to a screeching halt with a burning desire to continue. Training in martial arts has given me a new sense of self-worth and confidence that I had never imagined - not to mention, it has jump started my much-needed weight loss.

So, why can't I afford this place on my own? Well, as a full time veterinary student, I am in a ton of debt thanks to student loans and have no time to hold a job thanks to the hours of studying required of me to succeed. My parents are very supportive of my expensive and demanding career path, but I cannot always expect them to hold me up financially. I am pet-sitting as much as I can this summer to try and afford my membership, but it is not likely that I will be able to make enough to support my developing passion for martial arts.

$2,500 is the cost of a full one year membership. It is steep, but this place is the best of the best in New England for martial arts. All of the coaches are decorated and well known champions in their discipline. I hope that by training with them, I will achieve a greater sense of self-worth, an expanding knowledge and passion for martial arts, strategies for self defense, and a healthier outlook on life both physically and mentally.

Every little bit helps.

Sincerely,
Maureen

Update 7/10/13: I love this team! With the funds I have acquired so far, I have joined Team Link and have been training with them for 2 hours a day 5 days a week for the last month. I have also been trying to make it to CrossFit 1-2 times a week at CrossFit Prototype (www.crossfitprototype.com). To top it all off with my #1 priority, I have been studying very hard to successfully remediate a very challenging class this summer. Thank you all for your support!

Update 8/28/13: This is one of the best things I have ever done. I have lost 20 pounds so far, feel great (minus the aches and pains of training), and am having so much fun learning everything. I passed my summer classes and now working hard to balance 3rd year classes with training. I have made a lot of improvement over the last few months and hope to have the chance to showcase my skills in the near future. Thank you all for your continued support!
