Stand in solidarity with  CUPE 3903!

Contract faculty, teaching assistants (TAs) and graduate assistants (GAs) represented by CUPE 3903 at York University have been on strike since March 5th. In the last week, our employer has proven to us that they will not bargain in good faith, keeping instructors and students from completing their academic progress and wrapping up the school term. The disruption caused by a lack of fair bargaining is impacting all members of the York community.

We  humbly ask for financial and political support your community, household, union local, council, workplace, division or national office, faith-based or spiritual group, community group, or organization can give by way of financial and political support as we fight again for fair wages and job security.

Monetary contributions fortify CUPE 3903’s strike fund, and all financial contributions in support of CUPE 3903 will directly benefit our membership and allow us to continue our struggle for fair pay and secure working conditions for our members. The CUPE 3903 membership’s struggle has and will continue to set precedence for better working conditions for university workers across the country, and will benefit all students seeking quality post-secondary education throughout Ontario and Canada.

Here’s what’s happening: on Friday, March 2nd, teaching assistants, contract faculty, and graduate assistants of CUPE 3903’S Units 1, 2, and 3 voted to strike after extensive bargaining over job security, graduate funding, and the elimination of research assistantships. After two full weeks of picketing, York University finally agreed to come to the bargaining table on March 20th, however the employer made it clear that they were not willing to negotiate our contract fairly. While 3903’s bargaining team has been willing and ready to return to negotiations at any time, York University has not returned to the table. Undergraduate students have joined our picket lines, and are refusing to cross picket lines in support of their instructors, as have members of the York University Faculty Association (YUFA). Undergraduate students and full-time faculty at York University are standing in solidarity with CUPE 3903, and we’re asking for your support too.

We also encourage you to join our picket lines or send messages of solidarity. Solidarity picketing and messages help ensure that morale remains high among our members, letting our members know they are supported in their fight for better working conditions. Messages of solidarity can be sent directly to [email redacted]

We will mention your support in our union communications. For donations, please make sure to include information necessary for us to issue your tax receipt. Thank you kindly.
