Her wrist was broken and repaired in Mexico. The repair (2 plates and 13 screws) began to fail within several months of the surgery. At the time she was living in San Jose del Cabo with her son (who was 5 years old ) when the repaired wrist began to fail. She was too afraid to continue with medical attention in Mexico and hoped for the best hoping that the wrist would stabilize at some point. It became impossible for her to care her son and his grandparents have been of tremendous help and support by caring for him. It is very hard for her to not be able to care for her son.
Jessica’s wrist has continued to twist and become worse with time. She can wiggle her fingers but essentially, her hand is of no use. The situation is unsustainable and she needs surgery soon before the plates break through the skin and any hope of saving her wrist/hand is lost.
Her insurance will be available on January 1, 2015 and we are hoping that very soon after that we can begin the process of having her wrist evaluated and referred to a hand surgeon in northern California. Her anticipated expenses for this surgery are well beyond her current means as she is unable to use her right hand. (she is right handed). We are asking for help with her monthly insurance premiums, her medical deductable and out of pocket expenses, physical therapy and living expenses until she can get back on her feet and be productive again. We can only estimate the cost but feel that $12,000 is the very minimum amount we anticipate she will need for her portion of the expenses of the surgery, premiums and living expenses.
Monthly premiums will total approx $665 per month.(estimating the need for help with 4 months of premiums-$2,660)
Her out of pocket is a maximum of $4000 for the surgery.
Prescriptions right after surgery-not able to estimate but should be post operative pain meds only.
Her living expenses are approximately $1,200 per month. We think this will be about a 3-4 month ordeal from her first evaluation through surgery and physical therapy.
Any amount you can donate will help Jessica through this trying time.
Jessica has struggled to create a successful and independent life all-the-while keeping her amazing positive attitude and outlook. She always knows the best is yet to come. I am honestly amazed that she has not fallen into despair. She is a very strong young woman. In her current physical condition, Jessica cannot support herself well enough to make ends meet and also support her son. This surgery will help her on her way to a productive contributing future.
If you could also forward this GoFundMe link to your friends and family it will help us toward our minimum goal of $12,000 to help Jessica get better and move past this painful medical issue, that has become an emergency, and on to a productive life.
Thank you in advance for any donation you feel you can make.
