This week Kelly decided to take temporary leave of work in order to focus on a full recovery. This is great news, but will mean increased financial instability.
We've raised her fundraising goal to $10,000 to help support her through the next few months, and keep this most badass Gofundme campaign going. GO KELLY!
Update 9/20/19: Kelly came home today! She will need constant help, and her total recovery is estimated at 12 weeks.
Update 9/14/19: Kelly underwent major surgery that SUCCESSFULLY reconstructed her right hip. She's officially a bionic woman.
In August Kelly was diagnosed with Stage IV metastatic breast cancer when a 7cm tumor was found in her right hip socket. Immediately after the diagnosis, she underwent radiation on her right hip and started cancer suppression treatment. To complicate matters, Kelly was in a bike accident on Friday August 31st that fractured the same hip socket where the tumor was found and radiated.
It’s been a rough 13 days for Kelly. But after some very scary and very painful moments, I’m happy to report that Kelly is scheduled for a hip reconstruction surgery this Friday September 14th at Kaiser’s Oakland hospital. It’s a major onco-orthopedic procedure, but her surgeons are top-tier and her prospects for a full recovery are excellent.
I think it’s safe to say that even though Kelly is in great spirits, it’s been taxing on her, and she’s ready to get well, on her feet, and put this behind her. But there’s some hard days ahead. We're seeking your help as she makes her recovery.
All money raised will be available to Kelly to pay for in-home care, transport, food, activities of daily living, and any medical expenses or insurance costs.
