Students at Dominican High School are embarking on a new challenge
next year -- after successfully securing funding in 2012-13 for video
equipment including cameras, editing stations, lights, and audio
equipment, we're ready to actually make our first student film.
Our working title is The Way it Was, and our script is in flux -- but we can promise that the material will be age appropriate and in good taste!
The problem is -- well -- movies are expensive. As a high school program, we have to be very intentional about location fees and any additional equipment we might need.
Our solution? We're going to build a sound stage, right in the school. We've got a lot of what we need -- but the final piece will need a little more help for.
The centerpiece of our studio, and the bit we need help with, is a cyclorama wall. It's going to cost us about $1500 in materials -- but it will allow us (with the use of green screens we've already secured) to shoot in any location we can imagine.
But that's not really what you're funding -- what you're really funding is the short film the cyc wall will allow us to create. While being students comes with many drawbacks, one of the great benefits is that our only costs are the material ones. Work hours are part of coursework and extra-curriculars. We will complete the project as a passion, not for pay.
Some of us will go on to do video work for pay in our future lives, but this is a labor of love.
After the cyc funding, the additional $1000 will go towards media needs -- additional memory cards, building a track dolly, and paying incidental costs which unfortunately add up.
We're hoping you can help us make that labor come to fruition.
