Seco's Medical Bills without OHIP
Donation protected
On September 19th our beloved friend Ivan, or Seco as you might know him, broke his arm in a bike accident. It was a bad break and he ended up needing surgery to re-place the bones and brace them with a metal plate. Without OHIP, all of this is being billed directly to him as an individual and is costing in the tens of thousands. As someone with limited savings who is living paycheck to paycheck, this debt is far beyond any amount he’ll be able to pay back in the foreseeable future. On top of it all, Seco works a physical labour job and has been unable to work during his recovery. The lost wages add another several thousand dollars in financial burden.
We’re looking to raise $24,000, or any portion thereof, to help Seco through this challenging time. Of this, $16,000 is going directly to cover medical costs, and $8,000 is to help cover lost income in the period after the initial break, the initial surgery, and the eventual reversal surgery-- income that would usually have gone towards rent and other essential costs of living. If we fall short of our goal, medical costs will be prioritized.
A full breakdown of medical expenses and some pictures of the bills we have so far can be found below. Note the fundraiser is set up in my name (Natalie) because without a Canadian Tax ID, Seco is not eligible to receive GoFundMe disbursements directly. However, all of the funds are going straight to him.
Your generosity means the world to us. Thanks in advance for any support you can offer. Every little bit helps!
