Donation protected

T.J. graduated from Smithtown High School West on June 20th!!!

Quote: "It seems that for success in science or art, a dash of autism is essential". Hans Asperger

Sometimes dreams only come true once in a lifetime and you have to dream it,believe it and go for it ! T.J. always says you have to believe in yourself in order to make things happen. It was a tough and difficult decision to go this route but we believe in his dream.

Thomas better known as T.J. or "Teej" was diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome (autistic spectrum) in the fourth grade. He always worked hard but struggled with school especially when it came to bullying and social interaction. In addition to his Asperger's, he later was diagnosed with scoliosis and had to mentally deal with my disability and surgeries. If you have or know anyone with Autism you know the difficulty.

Although T.J. worked hard, he faced many challenges and crossroads and will continue to do so, especially in college. With his hard work and the help of his Special Education Department, Guidance Department, Teachers, Boces and his doctors they truly helped to make his acceptance possible. We want to thank everyone who helped in his success.

T.J. has always been creative and very interested in film for several years. Given the opportunity to attend Boces- Film/video production, he was able to pursue his passion.

We are truly proud of TJ and his accomplishments. T.J. graduated June 20th!!!, He was recently accepted to SVA (School of Visual Arts) for his "achievements and artistic promise". His Guidance Counselor was amazed with his determination and belief that he would fulfill his dream of attending SVA. Shortly after his acceptance, he received a recognition award from the Rotary and also given a $2,000 scholarship through his school. In addition, his senior class voted him "most likely to be remembered".

T.J. applied to other colleges that were less costly but we all felt that SVA would best fit his overall needs and help him fulfill his lifetime dream. SVA has a great film program, friendly atmosphere and an excellent disability services department.

In addition, we really feel that T.J. needs to stay and dorm at
SVA. It is important that he remains focused and will be able to concentrate on his studies.

If you would consider a donation towards his dream, it would help his confidence, make him proud of his success and make his dreams of becoming a film director come true. Just think, that when you see his name in the credits in the future, you can smile and know you helped to make it happen!

Please join our team. "Teamwork makes the dream work"!!!!

Thank you for your consideration.
