Having seen the power of theater to transform lives and to inspire communities, esteemed professors from Omaha’s universities created Shakespeare on the Green in 1986. For 36 years, Shakespeare on the Green has provided unprecedented access to world-class quality theatre. The program continues to build community locally and statewide, inspire people from throughout the country to pursue careers in the arts, and encourage participants to reach for excellence. To date, we have served more than 800,000 patrons.

As it has been for many arts organizations, these past two years have been a distinct challenge for our mission. COVID-19 shuttered our program for two years, and vital educational and statewide programming was put on hold.

With new leadership, Nebraska Shakespeare is being transformed into an organization that will continue to serve and inspire generations to come! With a mission to explore what it means to be human through the creative spirit of Shakespeare, Nebraska Shakespeare is renewing our commitment to transform lives and inspire communities.

While getting our signature program, SHAKESPEARE ON THE GREEN (world-class, professional theater productions FREE FOR EVERYONE!) back on the green after two and a half years of darkness was a massive priority, in pushing to achieve this, we are left with a $100,000 deficit.
