Make an Impact Abroad with AIESEC

Donation protected

Hello Everyone,

My name is Darion D. Jordan and I'm a student at the University of Missouri. I am currently an incoming senior studying International European Studies with a dual-degree in International Textile and Apparel Management.

I was given an amazing opportunity to intern in Cairo, Egypt through a non-profit organization called AIESEC. AIESEC is the largest-non profit organization in the world, promoting exchange in over 113 different countries. AIESEC helps develop human kinds potential, while also providing cross-cultural experiences worldwide. As a current member and national trainer of AIESEC United States, I've been selected to help train and implement strategies for the local chapter in Cairo, Egypt, in efforts to provide more cross cultural experiences for students and develop the local community. In addition, I will be interning for Resala, one of the biggest NGOs working in Egypt, started as a student activity in Cairo University in 1999 and now one of the leading NGO's in Egypt. Resala is powered by over 100,000 volunteers spanning 54 branches all over Egypt. It provides 20 activities aiming at helping the Egyptian community. These activities include: caring for orphans, helping the blind, the deaf, children with special needs, blood donation, poverty alleviation, and literacy training. I will be working as marketing specialist helping to promote the NGO. Unfortunately, I don't have sufficient funds to take part in the program and I'm hoping with the support of family, friends, and supporters to turn this dream into a reality, helping in underdeveloped communites across Cairo.

About Me
I have a passion for fashion, cultures, and diversity, incorporating these aspects into my everyday work. I've always been surrounded by selfless leaders and individuals who give wholeheartedly for the betterment of others. With my mother working in Human Resources, Social Work, and in the local community, my parents have always strived to give unto others and help within the community. Understanding the world that surrounds us all, has always been something I've wanted to explore. Attending a predominately black high school, in a community with limited resources, I developed a keen interest in incorporating diversity amongst my peers and educators.
Coming to the University of Missouri, has taught me to use my knowledge to teach and help others succeed. Being in AIESEC, has helped me understand the importance of cross-cultural experiences and developing others inner potential. I'm hoping with this amazing experience, to provide the University of Missouri student body more abroad experiences while also helping Cairo develop as a community.

Background of Program and Expenses Covered
As stated earlier, I will be interning through an organization called AIESEC. In AIESEC, we partner with other local chapters and companies worldwide to provide cross cultural experiences for people all across the world. I will be working as a trainer for the Local Chapter of AIESEC Cairo, helping to train and implement strategies to provide more experiences for the local community of Cairo. In addition, I will be working for a NGO called Resala, working towards a better society by improving life conditions and atmospheres for those in need. My work will revolve around marketing the NGO properly, working on recycling campaigns and other activities regarding this topic. I will be active with the locals of Cairo, living with locals of the community.

The funds donated and contributed will be used for round-trip airfare, traveler's insurance, program fee, matching fee, passport fee, meals, transportation, and personal allowance. AIESEC covers housing accomodations locally in the area. To find out more about Resala and AIESEC, click the link below.

Why
I want to intern abroad to not only gain cross cultural experience, help provide these same opportunities to others, but to be a part of the change the world needs. I've been a part of AIESEC, promoting exchange to the University for 2 years and never lived the product itself. It's important for me to experience this journey to provide this same experience to the next person. I want to be an advocate for promoting opportunities to students, faculty, and staff to experience and DISCOVER. There are many issues that our world faces daily and I want to help make it just a little better. If given this opportunity, I will be able to come back with a better global mindset, going directly into the communities and speaking from real experience, in order to give back the experience I once dreamt of having to someone else. I will be able to impact a local community and train others to prompt their community, globally, to experience traveling abroad, as well.

I'm faced with coming up with the finances to cover all the costs of this trip very quickly, due to the time and logistics. The reason I'm still going because I believe I have a calling and that there is something I must do. I believe that I can not only go an help make a difference in the local communities, but showcase to others that the ones that struggle can also experience the experience of a lifetime. I'm ready for the challenge that lies ahead. Through the successes, triumphs, and failures, I can push through and you can all help me do so. With just a little help you can truly make this dream a reality and help me better implement programs for students to experience a journey similar to my own.

The 3 C's of Life: Choices, Chances , Changes

You must make a choice
To take a chance
or your LIFE
will never change

I hope you decide to help me fund my dream of interning abroad to be an advocate for change, making a difference in the local communities of Egypt and communities of our world.

Thanks for listening,
Darion D. Jordan
