My Husband is a Purple Heart recipient from August 2004, he served in the USMC as an 0331 and 4 combat tours. He is currently a veteran, but has recently experienced some complications with his back. It is a service related injury that caused him to have surgery in California May 2012, Sept 2012 he started experiencing symptoms of Infection, Dec 2012 he was wheelchair bound and hospitalized and diagnosed with spinal infection, he underwent 6 mos of antibiotics. This past week while traveling to visit family in Mass he was admitted to Mass General and underwent an emergent surgery on his spine, requiring a cage on his spine and a bone graft. I am writing to request assistance with lodging, airline giftcard or gas cards while he is recovering in the Boston area. He has to be here for 6 to 8 wks for continuity of care and cannot travel to his homecity of Camarillo California until cleared by the doctors. Currently our lodging is being paid for by semperfifund, but they may not be able to pay for the whole 8 weeks. He received his Purple Heart and continued with 2 more tours in Iraq. His last tour was 2009. He is only getting 30% disability for losing most of his left calf and have not asked for much assistance, but now he needs some help. He is abulatory, but needs to stay in Boston in order to ensure that he gets the IV Antibiotics 24 hrs a day and that his large wound on his back heals without getting further infection. I am Active Navy and stationed in California, I fly back and forth, but we can't get anyone to help with the flights. Please donate to help us get through the next few weeks so that he can finally fight this infection in his spine. Thank you.
