Greetings to all in Jesus' Name!
For those of you who don't know me, my name is Tabitha Markel and I am a 28 year old deaf resident of Randallstown, Md. I graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park in May 2010 with a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice. After three years of an exhausting job search for a position in the Criminal Justice field, I am sad to say the only employment I could find was as a part-time employee of Home Depot in a position which holds an uninviting future for a person with my skills and motivation. And so, desperate and depressed I began to pray for guidance from the only One who I felt could help me. My prayers were answered in a most unexpected and wonderful way.
An exciting opportunity has become available that would allow me to make Gods' Word known among the nations of the world. I am thrilled to be able to share with you that I have been called to join Youth With A Mission and to participate in its Discipleship Training School in Washington, D.C. beginning June 27, 2013 and ending Dec 13, 2013.
Youth With A Mission (YWAM) is an international and interdenominational movement of Christians wholly dedicated to presenting Jesus in a personal way to the world. The mission will be accomplished by training, equipping and mobilizing young believers so that they are spiritually, physically, mentally and socially prepared to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
The Discipleship Training School (DTS) is a six month program in two parts. The first part, the lecture phase, is a three month program in a classroom environment with speakers from around the world. The participants are instructed in how to know God more deeply and better understand His Will for us to serve the lost. (John 12:25). Among the many relevant topics presented by the speakers will be:
-How to Study the Bible
-Worship and Prayer
-The Power of the Holy Spirit
-The Nature and Character of God
The second part, the outreach phase, involves putting what is learned into action through a three month cross-cultural evangelistic outreach to Israel with the goal of expanding the kingdom of God. (Matt 28:19)
The DTS will be in American Sign Language (ASL) and specifically geared towards Gods' love for the deaf community. It will be incredibly challenging because of the intensity of the topical training while living with the staff at the school. Along with the outreach field experience, it presents a rare opportunity for spiritual growth. (Luke 6:21)
You are receiving this letter because I need you to play an integral role in this transition in my life. The most important way you can assist me is by becoming my prayer warrior, for the power of your prayers is immense. Please pray daily that I may receive the wisdom, strength, direction and protection necessary to successfully do His Will. Another prayer concern is for the financial support needed to participate in the program. I must raise my own funds the same as everyone, from the founder of YWAM to the rest of the beginning DTS students. I have the daunting task of raising $3,200 in DTS lecture fees by the June 27th starting date. By Sept 20th, I must raise another $4,500 in DTS outreach fees. I realize that pleas for financial assistance seem to come more and more often these days from people like those tragically affected by the Moore, Oklahoma tornado this month and Superstorm Sandy last year. What makes my request unique, I believe, is that my efforts are directed at helping lost souls achieve eternal life with our Lord Jesus Christ.
I am filled with gratitude for the privilege to serve the Lord and I want to thank you in advance from my heart for your prayers and any financial gift you may feel led to give.
