Track Mentorship

An AAU Track club for athletes coming from under-served communities. We offer training for the whole person - academics and athletics.

We've started a track mentorship AAU competitive team for under-served athletes ranging from age 12-18 years old . The program is geared to help those athletes aching to get to college, a way to pay for it through Track Scholarships! We work incorporate a literacy aspect helping athletes compose professional letters to colleges and coaches and help them keep their GPA above average to ensure a well-rounded college athlete. Athletes will be exposed to not only track workouts but will also learn proper strength training, injury preventatives, nutritional practices, proper form and more. It's small now but I have big plans for it to grow! I truly want these kids to have an opportunity to break the cycle and accomplish big milestones in their life.
We have EIGHT athletes currently on our team!

We will do also some fundraising and have the athletes continue to work on it to also build their public speaking and writing skills. We will approach local businesses and our athletes will share with them why they should sponsor our team! I'm not asking to be paid for it, but there's travel involved for the district meets and nationals meets as well as the membership fees and other costs. I already have one athlete who has run a time that would allow him to qualify for the Junior Olympics in the 400m race!

Right now we need to acquire funds pretty quickly to get the athletes and myself to the first qualifying meet happening in the middle of June.
Break Down Of Cost
THIS IS AN ALL OR NOTHING CAMPAIGN SO EVERY DOLLAR HELPS! :)
There is a membership fee associated with joining AAU in order to compete in their meets.
There is one District Qualifiers meet located in Knoxville, Tn approx 3 hours away from Nashville. We will have to stay over night.
There are several local invitational meets located in the Nashville area. There is an entry fee of about $15 per athlete.
There is the National Qualifiers meet located in Knoxville, Tn approx 3 hours away from Nashville. We will have to stay over night for possibly two nights.

If our athletes run fast enough, they will qualify for the Nationals meet!!! This is a huge honor and definitely opens the door for a lot of athletes!!! This meet is located in Detroit, Michigan most definitely a plane, rental car and hotel away. This trip will cost about $600/ per athlete.

All of the money from the fundraiser will be rewarded to each athlete as a scholarship to supplement their own personal payments.

Risks and challenges
There are definitely obstacles when it comes to working with pre-teens and teens!
We have several student volunteers to help at practice as well as other adult coaches trained to work with students.
I'll be honest the idea of starting this team was very overwhelming. I had a lot of questions! Luckily AAU is very helpful and has answered them. I am brand new to this organization so I know there will be more and I'm sure this first season I will mess up a lot of stuff! However, I think if we keep the goal the goal "all athletes will receive quality workouts and grow academically" we will have a successful season.
