Medical Spanish Volunteer Trip

Hello all! Many of you are already aware of the opportunity that I have this summer, but in case you're not, let me fill you in.

I have been given the chance to spend 6 weeks in and around Quetzaltenango, Guatemala this summer. While I'm there, I will be learning Spanish and helping to provide medical care to the people in the community. I wish I could sufficiently describe to you how excited I am about my participation in their summer program...but this would then turn into an ENORMOUSLY long post.

Let me say this instead...for me this opportunity represents the culmination of years of seemingly unconnected experiences. I was fortunate to have brilliant Spanish teachers in high school who taught the language in such a way that I am still able to use it on a basic level. My church instilled in me a passion for a global worldview and a deep desire to serve people who have minimal resources. And this latest venture into medical school has begun to provide me with knowledge and training necessary to meet people's physical needs in a new and truly exciting way. I am thrilled at the opportunity to immerse myself in Guatemalan culture. I am humbled by the opportunity to work alongside medical professionals providing excellent care to people in need, and I am determined to utilize the Spanish training I acquire to continue to serve members of my community who have limited access to health care systems.

The total cost for me in this venture is right at $2900 - a minor cost for what the experience offers...but a major expense for a medical student. If you would be willing to offer support, I would be hugely grateful. Thank you for your time and consideration. Here's to the journey!!
