On May 12th Jeff Bertolet's daughter/Karen's stepdaughter, Morgan Brittain, overdosed on heroin. She had been doing well and thriving in an inpatient treatment center for the previous 2 months. She knew she had a problem and was working hard to overcome it. Morgan was one of the treatment center's youth leaders, helping others, and making huge strides. She was doing so well she earned a weekend pass to spend Mother's Day at home.
Sometime that night she decided she wanted to get high "one last time." All it took was a few texts, and she got her hands on some heroin. Unfortunately, her tolerance was way down due to her 2 months being clean and sober, and she suffered a cardiac arrest during the early morning hours on Sunday. Morgan was found with barely any pulse and she had aspirated and it's a miracle she even lived through this massive trauma. The lack of oxygen to her brain caused massive brain damage on top of the damage caused by smoking heroin. She is only 17, a smart, beautiful, funny girl, with so much potential.
Morgan faces a long, long road to recovery and extended rehab and physical therapy. She's been in the Pediatric ICU for a month and has a tracheotomy and feeding tube. All of this is going to cost a lot of money, that we just don't have. I never thought I'd have to ask for donations to care for my daughter but here we are.
The donations will go toward her hospital bills, rehabilitation and long term care. If there is any money left it will be donated to treatment for other addicts who are suffering and needing help. Any little bit will help and THANK YOU in advance. Also, thank you all SO much for all your support throughout this tragedy.
