Dear Family, Friends & YOU
For those of you who not aware my mom, Armida Zayas has been recently hospitalized. She has been in the hospital in Durango, Mexico since May 27, 2013. During this time, various tests and scans have been performed to try and find what has been causing her ailment. A biopsy of her lung has confirmed that her lymphoma (this type of cancer attacks lypmh nodes) has returned after 20 years being in remission. This is dangerous as the lymphoma is taking over her lungs and making it difficult to breathe. My family has been struck once again with the big C word. This totally sucks!
It seems that Lymphoma has again raised its ugly head, and my mom is headed towards countless, painful chemotherapy treatments. I can't express how sad and painful it is to know that my mom will most likely go through this tortuous cancer treatment once again.
She is a cancer survivor, a wonderful mom, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, and I know she will get better. For those who do know my mom, you cannot help but smile when you think of her. She is the warmest person with a big heart and will always lend a helping hand to those in need.
That is why over 3 years ago, she gave up her job, home, family, friends and health insurance to take care of the abuelos (her parents and my grandparents) and moved to back to Durango, Mexico.
It was a big adjustment for her as well as for her kids and grandkids. We missed her tremendously however knew that the abuelos needed her. During this time, mom has been their primary caregiver and has thus drained her personal bank account to try and supplement the costs of the their care. She has never collected a salary or has asked for more than what is needed for the household. But we are asking now on her behalf.
We are doing our best to help cover the cost of her initial diagnostic process however know that there are many more expenses heading our way. She has no health insurance but she will be returning to the States and will need medical treatment here. Our efforts to try and have her qualified for Medi-care are underway however during the time we wait for approval, mom's expenses are adding up.
Believe me, I know things are tight all around and we understand if everyone cannot donate. We are fundraising for mom so that she doesn't worry about who is going to pay for the tests, scans and bloodwork and hospital bills:etc, etc and she can just focus on healing herself. Please, if you feel like you can donate even the slightest amount towards my mom's path to wellness, please, please do so.
