Community Murals Project

We need art!

Over the past two weeks, beautiful graffiti art has been popping up on the blank white walls under viaducts all over McKinley Park and Brighton Park. Recently, however, the Department of Streets and Sanitation has begun whitewashing over our new murals.

We're raising funds to redo murals on walls where they can be preserved. Our artists need paint. Your support will enable grassroots action as we build the community we want: one full of art that everyone can see and enjoy equally.  A gallery of 12th Ward graffiti was started: https://www.facebook.com/groups/262216108456292/

We  also started a petition to Alderman Cardenas demanding that he save the murals,  work with local artists, and secure additional funding for the arts and youth programming. Sign here: https://www.change.org/p/george-cardenas-save-the-murals
