YWAM Medical DTS

Most of you know that before I head into medical school, I wanted to do a DTS (Discipleship Training School) that's a five month program that is designed to help understand God more deeply, live more like Jesus and identify my gifts and purpose to use in furthering God's Kingdom. The one that I will be attending is called the Medical Mercy DTS, which is intended for those who are entering the health professions and are looking to get trained to most effectively provide health care as a means to serve people.

I will be traveling to New Zealand (one of the few schools that offer this specific program) and going through a pretty intense program learning more about my faith. That part of the program is 12 weeks. After the training, we will be heading to the Philippines on a 2 month medical service trip, serving the underprivileged with basic medical amenities. The program will provide a practical medical skills course to prepare us on this trip.

I honestly never expected to be attending a program like this -- it wasn't part of my ten-year plan-- especially a program that required fund-raising. Some of you know that I was seriously hoping to do a two-year teaching program through Notre Dame. However, in the last six months, I realized that perhaps I'm not ready to embark in direct service. How could I serve children and be an example of Christ, when I myself was so lost and stumbling in my own faith? In the end, I decided to let go of my seemingly impeccable plans and perhaps spend some time to take a step back and let God do His thing. And oddly enough, God's leading me to New Zealand (how convenient!).

Like I said above, this program has a cost... a cost that a poor college graduate, unfortunately, cannot afford. Here's the basic breakdown: 4600 New Zealand Dollars (3750 USD) for the 12 week training phase 4200 NZD (3400 USD) for the 8 week Outreach phase. I honestly do not know how in the world I'll come up with this money, but I guess my parents asked the same question 16 years ago, and God's been faithful to them all those years. So. I'm asking for support. My friend Jake introduced me to this site and thought it was a pretty neat way to raise support. if you

If any of you feel like this is a step towards the right direction and would like to support me along the way, please don't hesitate :)

This is cliché, but as much as I need monetary support, I do need prayer and encouragement along the way. My friends think I'm going on a long vacation in one of the world's most beautiful places. But in fact, I've been warned to enter into one of the most challenging times of my life. I'll be learning a lot, hopefully saying "yes" to God numerous times (many of you know how easy that can be), waking up in ridiculous hours of the morning, living in community, and studying about God and how His love for me. It's kind of a spiritual bootcamp. So, if you got this far into reading my long post, please feel free to shoot a quick prayer for the journey up ahead.

If you have any questions, feel free to drop a line. The website for the program is http://mrmdts.org/schools/medicalcompassion-dts/ if you want to check that out too.

Much thanks in advance! Kia 'Ora
