Patsy's story starts in 2015 when Tracy adopted her from the Humane Society of West Michigan. Patsy dog had a broken femur and couldn't walk. The vet staff speculates that she was used as a bait dog. She had a Femoral Head Ostectomy (removing the head of her femur) and soon went home with Tracy. Her road to recovery was long but she was soon on her feet and running and playing with any dog that would give her attention. This poor abused dog has never hurt anyone or any animal despite her traumatic past and has had the most playful and loving attitude from the moment we met her.
Ask anyone who has ever met her, and they will tell you that she has a sweet demeanor and loves people and animals alike. When she wasn't hiking through the woods, and wrestling and running with her dog friends, she could be found cuddling with her cat brother Boris, or sitting on any open lap that she could find.
Over the years, Patsy favored her injured leg (she didn't have a ball joint in her hip for that leg!) and we believe this put excess stress on her other leg, leading to the situation we are currently experiencing. Patsy tore her ACL in her left rear leg and required invasive surgery (TPLO) to cut the head of her tibia bone and reposition it so that she can someday run and play again. We acquired loans to cover the cost but the medical debt is a big burden for us. Tracy is a PhD student and John is an art instructor. We were not financially prepared for her tragic injury and want to give her the best quality of life that we can.
It's a long road to recovery for Patsy but your patronage will help get her back on her feet again. The medical bills are approximately $8,000 (I will post invoices and receipts soon), and she has a 50-70% chance of also needing this surgery on her other leg within a year. If you feel more comfortable making an exchange of money for goods, John opened an art shop at www.fundpatsy.com, where you can buy original paintings, prints, patsy dog stickers, and even commission John to paint your beloved pets!
Thank you for your help!
