Do you know what this year is? It's our 31st anniversary! (If you started singing the melody to the Tony! Toni! Toné! hit, "Anniversary," it's okay, we were thinking the same thing!)
Join us in our anniversary fundraising campaign "31 Years, 31 Days, $31 Dollars." We are asking all of our Uhuru alumni, friends, and supporters to celebrate our 31st anniversary with us by donating $31 to the Uhuru Dancers. This fundraising campaign will run for " 31 days".
Uhuru Dancers was founded in 1989 by Toni Young, Shaheedah Enahora, Celeste Anthony-Johnson, and Tina Scoope. It is the oldest professional African dance company in the Metro Atlanta Area. At least 100 members have passed through the ranks of Uhuru during its many years of operation. Through our sister companies, the Uhuru Dancers is also dedicated to empowering elders through Mzee Uhuru(Elders of Freedom) and teaching the youth through Watoto Uhuru (Children of Freedom). Mzee Uhuru is comprised of dancers over the age of 50, and Watoto Uhuru is comprised of boys and girls ages 3-17. Uhuru currently offers a wide variety of workshops, community events, and performances throughout the year.
Join us in celebrating our 31st anniversary by donating $31 to Uhuru Dancers. Your donation will help us continue sharing African culture through dance within the Metro Atlanta, Clarkston and Decatur communities. Thank you in advance for your support!
