The three of us in Chocorua Village at the New Hampshire/Vermont Border (Summer 2008)

An idea was born!
The motivation for this race is partly in response to the tragic bombing during the Boston Marathon last spring. Among the many sadnesses of that day, one of the hardest parts for us was watching all of the youth at the finish line. Growing up,we all spent marathon day with our families enthusiastically supporting the runners by handing out water, making signs, and cheering on strangers. Unfortunately, for the youth that were there last year (the youth that we used to be) and for millions around Boston, the marathon took on a different, devastating meaning. What should have been a day of joyful celebration and community instead prematurely exposed these youth to immense loss and suffering. A jolting reminder of the possibility of tragedy, marathon day re-instilled in us an appreciation for the safe, encouraging, and idealistic atmosphere that has continued to characterize our childhood and our time at Merrowvista. We want to pay this forward!!

In the beginning stages of this event's planning, we hoped to run the Boston Marathon to fundraise for Merrowvista. As Merrowvista was a place of such innocence and joy for us as children, our desire to help more youth experience Merrowvista came as a logical place to invest our efforts. As it became obvious that returning to Boston to run the race would present a logistical challenge, we decided it was more practical (and meaningful!) to run it from the beautiful Canaan Valley.

Our Goal!
In running this 30K, the three of us (along with 6 other runners!) hope to raise a total of $6,250 to provide full scholarships for 2 youth to be able to attend Merrowvista this summer (summer 2014!).

If you want to learn more about the mission of Merrowvista, please check out this video or visit the website.

Any support, large or small, monetary or otherwise is appreciated.   Thank you!!

About the Runners

This summer, we can't wait to return as 4-trails staff for our 3rd year on staff and our 11th/12th years at camp. We're looking forward to helping campers discover their personal best and to developing a community that values all of it's members- and we can't wait to have FUN!
