Hi, my name is Ryan I'm doing the 3 peaks challenge to raise money for Birmingham children's hospital. I've always wanted to do the 3 peaks challenge but never got round to doing it, now I have a reason. I'm doing it in my daughter Lana’s memory, who sadly passed away at 2 days old in January 2025. She had been diagnosed with a unique heart condition called transposition of the greater arteries at 22 weeks gestation. Although this was recognised at her 20 week scan, Lana showed how strong and rebellious she could be at each and every check up scan. Lana would not stay still or allow them to prod her for to long. Lana was born to be a fighter, sadly she went into cardiac arrest upon her arrival at the children's hospital on 22nd January 2025. Unfortunately it took almost 50 minutes to resuscitate and regain her hearts normal function. At this point she was given 30 to 60 minutes of life expectancy. Lana however being the fighter she is, surpassed their expectations and survival time frame. She began to look as if she was improving, we believed we would move forward in her recovery. Unbeknownst to us that a CT scan would show the Fatal damage which had incurred internally. We were informed Lana had suffered extensive brain damage, vital organs had been damaged and were incurable. This left my wife and myself with the heartbreaking decisions to keep Lana on the machines, or to allow our daughter to rest peacefully. Upon her machines being turned off, the doctor gave her the life expectancy of 5minutes. Lana surpassed their expectations and fought with us by her side for 47minutes until her heart took its last beat.
