3 Children's Books about Addiction

Tyler Harrison died at age 26 of an accidental heroin overdose despite being a member of a good, loving, middle class family. He was very close and connected to his mom whom he nicknamed Moo at a young age. Vicky Harrison, aka Moo, is a 40-year veteran educator (former teacher) who still works part time as a school psychologist. After Tyler died, Vicky created MOO-Mothers Opposing Opioids. She published a book, Release Me, in 2016 about her experience as a mother who couldn't save her addicted son from death. Currently she is writing 3 children's books about addiction. These books will teach young children (ages 4-8) the aspects of addiction. Additionally, the books are a means for the family members of an addict to facilitate education and discussion as well as explore any feelings that impacted children may have. Ultimately, the books are designed to prevent additional drug experimentation, overdoses and deaths. Allyson Keenan Peters is the illustrator and former first girlfriend of Tyler's. They bonded over their deep appreciation for art and were in love for several years until Tyler's addiction interfered and severed their relationship. Vicky and Allyson became close and re-bonded (after Tyler's death) because of their love for who Tyler was before his opioid usage changed his brain chemistry and decision-making skills. Allyson is a married, thriving artist in NYC and is the Design Director for a design studio, working hand-in-hand with artisans across the world, creating luxury home and commercial goods. Vicky and Allyson are working together to publish three children's books about addiction.
Moo has been featured in newspaper and magazine articles and has presented routinely to both middle schoolers in a diversion program and adults in a rehab facility struggling with alcohol and drug addiction. She was featured on ABC Phoenix news in January 2018 when Governor Ducey signed legislation regulating the number of opioids doctors are allowed to prescribe. Book one features a little boy who sees his mom only on Saturdays and struggles with feeling “different” because he doesn’t live with either parent while book two features a child whose parent is incarcerated relative to illegal drug usage. A neighborhood pet that witnesses the family ramifications of adult drug usage shares his wisdom about addiction in book three. Each book features themes and pictures significant to Tyler’s life, family, and his artistic passion and talent.
The funds raised will be used to publish these three hardback books and pay for illustrations. All proceeds raised through this fundraising campaign will be used ONLY to support the continued efforts of this life-saving and critical outreach program which is to prevent addiction and overdoses. Moo's ultimate goal is to save lives and prevent further family loss and despair.

Why is MOO doing a fundraiser?
MOO is raising money via GoFundMe for the sole purpose of publishing 3 children’s books about addiction (which includes paying for the illustrations). MOO is not keeping any of the money; this is strictly a publishing financial endeavor.
To this date, since Moo began writing her first book in February 2015, she has earned less than $50. Vicky and Ron have subsidized all costs for the publication of Release Me, the establishment and maintenance of her website, www.moo-mothersopposingopioids.com, professional photographs of Moo and of all of Tyler’s artwork, business cards, etc… The business simply cannot continue without additional and outside revenue.
Remember that if you choose to donate, you are not donating to Moo/Vicky. You are donating to the education of children, the prevention of additional overdoses and deaths, and essentially to the good of the world.
