This is Isaac, he is 6 years old and has been diagnosed with Pre B Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Isaac is at the IWK hospital in Halifax as of Tuesday April 16th. In the past few days, Isaac has had a spinal tap and bone marrow test done, and has already started chemo through a pic line. Isaac will have a regimine of chemo and steroids for the next while, then they will do another spinal tap in a month to see if the treatments are working. Isaac will be immuno compromised, because as the chemo kills the cancer cells, some good cells will be destroyed in the process. So he will be at a higher risk to infections, colds etc. A couple of days ago, Isaac had a nosebleed, which took an hour and a half to get stopped, they had to give him more platelets, which he was allergic to, then he started throwing up blood. I can only imagine the horror Aaron (Isaac's father) was/is going through. This past week it's been a lot of bloodwork, IV's and needles, and this is only the beginning of a long road ahead for Isaac and his family. Isaac's father (Aaron) works at York Steele in Fredericton NB, he is a very hard worker and a wonderful father to all of his children, and a dedicated husband figure to his long time girlfriend April. They also have 4 other children living at home. Aaron will not leave Isaac's side at the IWK hospital and April is making the trips back and forth to be with her family. As we all know, times are hard, but for this family, it's going to get really hard. Aaron will not be able to return to work for some time and April is on sick leave from work because she lost her mom just recently.
