This page is to help a friend of a friend. I have come to know her more than either one of us would have liked through the very unlikely and very unfortunate event of her son's diagnosis with an aggressive type of cancer... He is only 5 months old and has just started to lift his head and to enjoy laying flat on his stomach... soon ready to crawl. As a mother of two young children, my heart has shrunk with every new detail I have learned about this case. Gabriela, his mom, is a girl just like me... happy, friendly, having given birth to a beautiful baby boy and admiring every minute of his development. I do that with my both my children. What I don't do, however, is contemplate losing them to a terrible disease. I cannot even imagine what she must be going through... and I don't want to, or I lose sight of what it is that I can do for them: raise money to make sure Petru goes through his treatment as planned.
Romania, the country where Petru's family is from, does not cover for cancer patients' treatment (that is another tragic issue which deserves a page of its own) so families need to manage their treatment themselves and more often than not, abroad, for lack of medicine in their own country. That puts extraordinary pressure on families, apart from the usual emotional burden which comes with the news.
Petru Adrian Dogaru, born 06.12.2012, was diagnosed in Bucharest, Romania, with neuroblastoma of the right adrenal. Further examinations in Cologne, Germany, confirmed this diagnosis (still preliminary) but revealed the extraordinary aggressive nature of the tumour. Current diagnosis: High risk MYCN amplified neuroblastoma in infancy, stage 4 Primary tumor: right adrenal Metastases: regional ipsi- and contralateral lymph nodes distant lymph nodes bone marrow (MYCN amplified tumor cells).
Every little helps! Vodafone Foundation Romania has enabled them to get to Cologne and get access to medical treatment. Now they need more help to continue the treatment for the full 9 months which are required. Please donate and, if the case has particularly inspired you, be creative and organise a fund raising event for Petru. Children's Day is just around the corner... let's all do our bit for him and his family. This illness knows no mercy! But there are ways to fight it... they are expensive but money is but means to an end. We want Petru to prevail in the end!
