Fight Like a Girl for Audrey

Donation protected
Our journey began with Audrey's right eye started to swell a little, with what we thought was an eye irritation. A few days went by and she started to complain about her leg hurting. We made an appointment with our Pediatrician on Monday April 22, 2013 and some blood tests were run. We received a call from our Pediatrician on Monday night at approximately 10:00pm with the news that the results indicated that Audrey had Leukemia. We were waiting for more tests to tell us if we needed to go directly to the hospital or could wait until the next morning.

We arrived at Providence Hospital in Anchorage Tuesday morning at about 9:30AM and were met with the most amazing people anyone could imagine. We were so welcomed and made to feel right at home. Some additional blood tests were taken so that they could type the Leukemia. We were informed that there were two types of this cancer one being ALL and the other being AML. The ALL type could be treated locally at Providence and the AML could not. So naturally we set our minds on the fact that Audrey was going to have the ALL type and we would have our friends and family as local support.

Our world changed again when we were informed that Audrey had the AML type. This meant we had to decide on where we were going to go to receive this treatment. With limited knowledge we trusted that God would direct our decision and we set off for Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland, OR. With that decision made LaVonne and Audrey boarded a Life Flight to Portland on Wednesday April 24, 2013 at approximately 8:30AM.
Both Mom and Audrey have arrived and have settled in to their new home for a while. Through all of this we are trusting that God's sovereign grace will direct our thoughts, prayers and decisions. Through all of our discomfort and pain our firm faith will bring glory to our Savior. We cherish your prayers and welcome your encouragement. The Lord knows we are going to need it.

God gives us this life to bring glory to Him and I pray that our attitudes will be a testament to His love for each of us. God gave up his son so that we could have eternal life with Him in Heaven. Our struggles on this earth are never promised to be easy but our trials and attitudes can allow Christ's never failing love to shine through.
