Roscoe Love: ACL Surgery Fund

In light of all the recent tragedies and Texas spring weather storm victims, I must say, I feel reluctant and somewhat apprehensive about doing this, but anyone who knows me, knows the love I have for my dog. It is my job to care for my 4-legged son and *swallows pride*, I need help.

Roscoe was diagnosed on 5/17/13 with a CCL tear (ACL in humans) in his left knee. The news was devastating to me. I felt for 1) like I had failed him somehow, 2) completely guilt-ridden for assuming that it was nothing more than a pulled muscle and not getting him to the vet sooner, now knowing what pain he must have been living with the last 3 weeks, and 3) finally, that I do not have the funds right now, needed to "fix" my baby boy.

Because of Roscoe's size and build, he needs the more invasive/more expensive of the 2 surgical repairs, known as the Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy, or TPLO surgery. I have been quoted $3,000 for the surgery and post-op care, but I have set up the goal as $4,000, in the event that complications occur or a longer post-op rehab may be needed. Should donations exceed the cost of the surgery and pre or post-op care, I pledge to donate the excess under Roscoe's name, on behalf of all of you, to the SPCA and/or Villalobos Rescue Center.

Should this reach anyone who doesn't personally know me, or the world's greatest back-talking, seat-jacking, snuggle-bug lap dog, here is a little about Roscoe - Roscoe came into my life 1 day shy of 9 weeks old and has been right by my side ever since. In fact, he goes everywhere with me. He will be 5 years old on May 19th. Roscoe is 1/2 English Bulldog & 1/2 Pit Bull, which already predisposes him to severe allergies and secondary ear/skin infections, an extremely sensitive tummy, and unfortunately, the "Pit Bull Stigma". But I will tell you this - with a few minor exceptions (mainly just those who choose to walk the opposite direction), Roscoe has befriended almost every single individual he's ever met, that had any of that stereotypical "Pit Bull Fear" in their mind, and that, my friends, makes me beam with pride. Roscoe may have been stricken with the worst of both breed worlds from a health standpoint, but he certainly benefited on the pretty side, more importantly though, in the personality department.

Roscoe is by FAR, the gassiest, but most hilarious dog I have ever encountered. Every day, I realize how lucky I am that I get to call him MY dog. I love him to the moon and back and he is in turn, lucky to be loved by so many near and far, and by those on FB that are fans of his ever-so-goofy photos/videos. In fact, Roscoe's personality far surpasses that of many people I've met in my life. Now, don't get me wrong, if he has to protect his mama or his house, he stands guard, but he is certainly far more famous for his silliness around here. One of his most notorious habits is guarding the car if I have to run into the 7-11 or somewhere else really quick (A/C on, of course). Roscoe climbs into the driver's seat and watches for me, which is amusing to me since I'm used to it, but hilarious to all passers-by since it looks like he is driving. He's even been known to honk the horn on occasion. That is just one of dozens of his "famous" antics. The point is, he is loved. He is a VIP/favorite at the vet, a favorite at the pet stores and dog park, especially w/the kiddos, and is the unofficial Neighborhood Mascot where we live.

The vet has recommended the surgery be done ASAP, and confirmed if it doesn't occur within the next 2-3 months at the latest, his knee will become super arthritic, rendering any late surgical methods useless, and he would be unable to live the rest of his life pain-free.

I certainly do not want anyone to feel obligated, but if you are willing, and would like to donate to Roscoe's surgical fund, I/we would be forever grateful. And although, I don't do a good job of keeping it updated, Roscoe has his own FB fan page, if you'd like to peruse thru his photos and are not already on my own friend's list. You are more than welcomed to do so (it's under Roscoe Love).

From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for the idea, the support and generosity!

With Love,
Jill & Roscoe
