Help Bring My Grandfather Home

The evening of December 8, 2020, my grandfather, my mother’s father Robert Dobyns, passed away, age 77. He is at peace now and no longer suffers from the frailty of body and mind.
Those that continue to suffer, though are my family knowing that we were unable to be with him during his final moment of life. COVID did not pass him by and we can only hope that his caregivers were able to make him comfortable to the end. My Grandfather’s life choices brought him from Houston to Illinois approximately eight years ago, his then wife wanting to be near her family.
His mental capacity began to diminish as did his bank account and subsequently his wife abandoned him with no power in the home and a $1200 light bill. He moved back to Texas to live with my mother but returned to Illinois less than a year later where his house and belongings were.
I accompanied my grandfather on the trip from Houston as my mother was concerned about him traveling alone. I stayed with my grandfather in his home with no power for about a month before returning to Texas. The wife came back briefly and had him committed to a nursing home at which point she abandoned him again. With only a small monthly annuity he was unable to pay his bills and ended up losing his house.
My mother and I understand that the decisions my grandfather made in his life are his own. My grandfather did not deserve to be left alone during a fragile time in his life with no family there. Regrettably, he died alone. My family and I are asking for assistance to bring him home for burial and therefore are reaching out for contributions so that we can afford to do so. For those of you reading this who have lost a loved one to COVID you understand our grief.
