Secondary School Program at Harvard

Donation protected
Hello, I am Alison Salazar and I am currently a sophomore at Theodore Roosevelt High School in Los Angeles. I am a student athlete and am involved in after school programs including Varsity Track and Field, Varsity Cross-Country, Students Run Los Angeles (a club that trains for the LA Marathon), and Keystone (a leadership and community service club). Since my freshman year I have been enrolled in AP classes; furthermore, I have also been ranked number one in my class since then.

I was born and raised in Boyle Heights, a low-income community. Education has always been my priority and that is why I strive to take advantage of all academic opportunities given to me.

This semester I applied to and was accepted to the Harvard Secondary School Program for High School students. When I received the acceptance letter on May 10th I was in shock. I could not believed that I had been admitted, yet, I knew I deserved it. At Harvard I will have the opportunity to experience seven weeks of college preparation. Alongside college and adult students, I will earn college credit in Harvard courses and explore subjects not available at Roosevelt High School.

I was also informed that the $10,690 tuition was due May 20. At that moment I knew that my family does not have the means to fund this expense. If I did not submit the tuition fee by Monday I would be withdrawn from the program. Fortunately, a family friend was kind enough to allow us to use his credit card until we are able to come up with the money. Thanks to this loan, I will be attending the Harvard Secondary School Program and will take two courses, Calculus II and Great Ideas in Computer Science with Java (an introductory computer science course).

This program is the first step in achieving my greatest dream of attending college and studying engineering. Today, I need your financial support in order to repay the $10,690 by July. My family and I have started various efforts in order to fundraise. I have set up an account at gofundme.com, (http://www.gofundme.com/2x5z4w) a site in which copious people have already donated. And we will be having a raffle for a 50-inch LG and raffle tickets are only $3.

I hope you can support me in my new endeavor, I am eternally appreciative of any help offered, thank you.
