Stop the developers from destroying Afrika Town to make way for bougie condos!!
The Afrika Town Garden is an Afrikan and Indigenous led land liberation project in West Oakland. The gardeners are reclaiming Black land in a community under siege by gentrification, and bringing healthy food and green space to a community in dire need. The cost of living in West Oakland has skyrocketed, and Black people are being pushed out at an unprecedented rate to make way for rich, mostly white newcomers, largely employed in the tech industry. Leading this campaign of ethnic cleansing are real estate moguls Neil Sullivan and Noel Yi. Along with other developers, they are planning a major "development" initiative which will tear down the Afrika Town Garden, the neighboring Qilombo, and several other properties on the block to make way for market rate housing. Afrika Town is one of the few remaining strongholds of Black life and culture in West Oakland. The destruction of Afrika Town would be a major blow to Black revolutionary organizing in the Bay. The struggle for Afrika Town is a symbol of what is happening in communities everywhere: the displacement of poor and brown people to make space for the rich and white.
We will not stand idly by while our communities are destroyed to make way for their white supremacist future. The fascists are not only on Breitbart, rallying in red hats and doing seig heil's at Milo speeches. They are the developers, the real estate corporations gobbling up land and displacing Black communities. Anti-racist struggle isn't just punching Nazis, it's also fight back against the institutional racism of capitalism and gentrification.
