As many of you know, I am pregnant! The baby is due at the end of July and I couldn't be more excited to enter into this next phase of my life's journey. For as long as I can remember, I have felt that I would not become the best version of myself until I became a mother. I am thrilled to be making this lifelong dream a reality.
As I make preparations for the baby's arrival, I am reaching out to ask for your support in the form of a financial contribution to my maternity leave fund. I have spent the past 6 years working at a job that I love at a small, community-based non-profit in Philadelphia. Unfortunately, my employer cannot afford to offer me paid maternity leave. As a result, the ten weeks I am hoping to take off will be unpaid. As you might imagine, my non-profit salary doesn't allow me to put money aside every month to save for such a lengthy period of unemployment. Your contribution will enable me to cover the cost of living during that time. Those first ten weeks are tender and precious, full of important bonding time, healing, and the huge emotional and physical shifting of new parenthood. It is so important to me to have this special time with my baby, and your donation will help make it possible.
The world that we live in does not do a good job of supporting people as they become parents, let alone single parents. It is my dream to start out the journey of being a mother in a sustainable, supported way. I would be honored if you were able and willing to help me make that dream come true.
