Heart transplant

Jess has had congestive heart failure and cardio myopathy since he was 21 and has lived the past 5 and a half years with an implanted LVAD (Left Ventricle Assist Device) in his heart and a pacemaker that is meant to be a bridge to heart transplant. Jess lost his mother at a young age after her own heart transplant. In a series of more unfortunate events and complications Jess has been admitted into the hospital for the second time in a matter of weeks. His LVAD alarms indicated issues that during the first admittance we had thought we had addressed as it could be a number of varied things, but those alarms returned and he became symptomatic Saturday Nov 7th. He was in touch with his heart team and decided it was best to get him checked out in the local ER and after some immediate triage they were unable to get the alarms under control and his heart team decided it would be best to have him treated at the hospital in Seattle where they are located (3.5 hours from home.) He was transferred to the hospital in Seattle, and many heart related tests later a CT scan revealed two major issues in his heart. Only one of them was able to be addressed while the other will require heart transplant and currently leaves him at a high risk for complications. Due to his regular blood thinners after the procedure (angiogram and stent placement) to fix the outflow of his LVAD he had complications that resulted in two internal bleeds and extremely low bp that landed him in the ICU for several days. The amazing team here caught it in time and were able to stop the bleeds and he is back on the Cardiac Floor now but is still healing from that. His inflow into his LVAD is now sitting at a dangerous angle that has concerned the doctors because it puts him at a higher risk for additional complications; such as clots or stroke and because of this he has been changed to a higher status on the transplant list. This comes as a double edge sword because while it means he will hopefully get his heart much sooner, it also means he can't return home to Oregon until after he receives his new heart.. In the meantime due to current Covid related restrictions, he will not be allowed ANY visitors. Which mean,Jess will spend the holidays alone and undergo his transplant alone... Amongst other things this has left us with unexpected expenses while they he is up there . Additionally,there will be tons of expenses that will be ongoing post transplant. He will have to be in Seattle for 3-5 months post transplant as well. Any financial help from those who can and are willing to give it is so incredibly appreciated, but if you can even just take the time to share our cause on your pages, put out good energy/words/prayers, be a shoulder to lean on for a moment while we catch our breath and try to process everything it would mean the world to us. We are trying our best to manage these unexpected expenses while the hospital has been going above and beyond to help us find needed assistance. UPDATE: 12/2/2020 Jess received his new heart a couple days before thanksgiving. After some complications Jess was placed on life support to give his heart and body the time it needed to get to know each other. As of 12/1/2020 Jess had his breathing tube removed and is currently on partial life support while his heart and body gains strength. He is alert and talking,but is still in need of time to regain his strength.. Oregon is not currently doing heart transplants, so he had to travel to Seattle for this surgery, and is still in the ICU. He has a long stay ahead of him - probably 4-5 months - and lots of costly medications. Anything you can do to help would be greatly appreciated. ❤️
