Chicago Cab Driver Victim of Hit and Run

If you've seen this insane video making its way around the interwebs you know that this Chicago taxi driver was rear-ended by a guy in a stolen SUV (the cab driver obviously didn't know it was stolen at the time), tried to keep him from fleeing the scene and ended up with more damage to his cab (and a bunch more damage to other cars along the way) as the SUV sped away anyway.
An eyewitness says, in this NBC Chicago story, "He tried to just take care of things peacefully in the beginning but then once he saw that he was trying to take off that was when he took it upon himself to try to get traffic to stop him."
According to the article linked above (and other sources), he's now got $3000 worth of damage to his cab (with a $500 insurance deductible he's responsible for). On top of that he's missing "at least a week's worth of work due to the damage" and "will be disciplined for confronting the SUV driver."
So this guy has had a bad week.
I don't know that taxi driver. I don't know if he's a good driver or a bad driver, or a nice guy or a rude guy or if he offers people bottles of water when he picks them up or farts in the car a lot when he's driving people around and makes it smell really farty in the car. I have no idea. But most of the taxi drivers I've ridden with in Chicago have been good people trying to make a living. So the odds are that he falls in that category. And this guy's cab is his livelihood. And somebody recklessly ran into his cab and tried to drive off. And he didn't want them to drive off so he tried to stop them. And he's out a week's pay and $500 deductible because the person that caused the damage is going to jail (I assume).
Anyway, this seems like a guy that had a bad week and is probably thinking people are (for the most part) pretty lame right now. But gofundme is all about showing how people are not lame at all. People are (for the most part) actually pretty sweet.
So, for all the taxi drivers out there just trying to make a living (but specifically for this guy since that's who would be getting this money), do you think we could raise $1000 to at least pay his deductible and make his lame week a little bit better?
