Another chance at life

My name is Sean McMullen, I am 18 years old and my goal is to raise enough money to allow my mom to receive a stem cell treatment for her Secondary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis. For those of you who do not know, Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic, typically progressive disease involving damage to the sheaths of nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. Essentially something is messed up in the neurological transmitions from her brain to other parts of her body and vise versa. MS has the tendency to inflict severe fatigue and impaired vision/ muscle coordination eventually resulting in the inability to function on your own and as the disease continues to progress, inability to move period. A Stem Cell Transplant is a combination of chemotherapy and the body's healthy stem cells. When a patient undergoes this treatment they are given Chemotherapy in order to weaken the immune system.  The chemo kills off cells, including those which are impaired, and the impaired cells are the ones which inflict the most damage of Multiple Sclerosis.

Prior to this treatment, a sample of healthy stem cells drawn from the bone marrow are collected and cultured. Once the Chemo has done its job, the healthy stem cells are injected back into the body and over time, build the immune system back up, and returning function back to the body. Studies have shown a 64% reduction in disability on average. 80% percent of the people treated who were followed for 4 years had no more relapses, and 87% had no worsening of their level of disability.

The goal of $150,000 would cover the treatment and any expenses as well as airline tickets for my family to fly her out to Chicago or Seattle (the two places offering this treatment here in the Unites States). I often say my mom doesn't deserve the cards she's been dealt, and she doesn't. She's been there for me through everything and radiates nothing but kindness and affection for everyone. My mom means everything to me and if I have the opportunity to help her, I'll do that however I can, whether or not this ends up with the desired outcome, I can atleast say I tried.

I just got a job and I plan on putting money away with each paycheck but I am unable to raise the money on my own within the next six months, ANYTHING is appreciated. This is a surprise for my mom and I'll be sure to update all of you with results, progress, etc.   I really do not have anyone to turn to and am doing this in an attempt to change my mom's health and allow us to have as much time as possible together.  Please help if you can.  Thank You!
