HOPE FOR HALIMA

Donation protected
For the last nine years, Halima Mohammed has been fighting a battle with tongue cancer.
On September 19, 2012, she had major surgery for tongue and jaw cancer; three quarters of her tongue was removed and her left jaw bone was removed. Reconstructive surgery took place on the same day. Shortly after surgery something happened. As a result, Halima stopped breathing, her heart stopped and she went into cardiac arrest. It took 4 to 4 ½ minutes before she was resuscitated, there was loss of oxygen to her brain and she suffered anoxia brain injury.
The resulting conditions were:
· Inability to control the use of her arms and legs
· Inability to control eye motions
· Inability to walk
· Inability to talk
· Inability to swallow
· Inability to recognize people, pictures, sounds

From September 19, 2012 to February 3, 2013, Halima was hospitalized in three different institutions. She was discharged to her home on February 4, 2013. Prior to her surgery, Halima had named her son, Carlos and her sister, Rozeda, as her health care representatives to make health care decisions for her. She is unable to care for herself and requires 24 hour care by a registered nurse and three home health aides. She is currently being fed liquid only, through a feeding tube. Needless to say, this care is very costly and much of it is not covered by her health insurance or any federal or state programs.

Family members are drawing from their funds to pay for the 24 hour care, equipment, supplies and medical/dental co-pays. These expenses exceed $3,000 per week. Unfortunately, these costs exceed the family's resources. Additionally, there are housing, food, utilities and transportation expenses which must be paid.

Each day we are encouraged by the gradual and consistent improvement Halima shows. We know that the care she is receiving is making a difference. Please help us maintain the medical care Halima needs to continue to live and get better by making a generous gift. By the grace of God, and with the prayers and help of others, Halima can regain her independence. IT IS POSSIBLE!

Please give what you can, as often as you can, to help Halima. We appreciate whatever you do. Thank you for your continued prayers, love and support.
