Sarah and Baby Flores' Story
On Wednesday August 16th, 2016 I went in for a routine diabetic ultrasound at my OB office. Everything looked great except for something concerning on baby Norman's ( Norman Guadalupe Flores- know as Nacho to many, we are releasing his name early due to the circumstances) brain. Closer look discovered there was a malformation of one of his veins. We discovered later that day he has a condition called the Vein of Galen Malformation. It is extremely rare and will need to be treated by specialists.
We discovered that Boston Children's Hospital is the best place to go for this treatment for the following reasons:
* They are number one in the country for pediatric neurology
* They are number one in the country for pediatric cardiac surgery
* They have major experience with the Vein of Galen Malformation
Please check out their website: http://www.childrenshospital.org and in the search box on the main page type in Vein of Galen Malformation and you will find information and more details than I can produce.
Currently:
*Norman has and enlarged heart due to the Vein of Galen Malformation
* It is undetermined how many surgeries or how long this will take
* It has been stated that it could be a minimum of 30 days
* I have received steroid injections to prepare his lungs for early delivery
* We do not know exactly when he will be delivered or when we are leaving for Boston
Erick and I have been overwhelmed with the support from doctors, strangers, co-workers, friends, and especially family. We would like to thank you all for your unending support, encouraging words, hugs, prayers, and even laughter. We love you all and all of your kind acts will not be forgotten.
At any time that you would like to personally talk to us we would love to communicate, please know that it may be hard for us to do so considering the circumstances. Please visit our caringbridge.com site ( look up Norman Flores or Sarah Flores) to help us all stay connected in the mean time.
As you can imagine this is an emotionally taxing as well as financially draining experience. Anything that you can give to help with food, airline tickets, housing, hospital bills, and overall care is much appreciated.
