My name is Tom Beery. I'm 61 years old. This past July, while in for a routine colonoscopy, my digestive physician was looking over my list of medications and wanted to know more about why I was on an acid reflux drug. I explained that I formerly went thru Rolaids by the case until newer, more effective acid reflux drugs came about. He said he wanted to do an endoscopy along with the colonoscopy. His insight has probably saved my life, as he found only lesions of cancer within my esophagus. I was sent to a surgeon for an esophogechtomy. The surgery ended up removing nearly 80% of my esophagus and a lymph node was discovered outside the esophagus. The node was removed and I am presently "cancer free". Although cancer free, I will be undergoing a chemo/radiation regimen to clear any other micro-cancerous tissues that may still linger.
As a vocal musician, many of you have asked about how this surgery has affected my singing voice. I'm happy...and relieved to say the pipes are OK. It will take a little work to re-tune, but that's minor stuff compared to the major picture. (Puns intended.)
I am one of the lucky ones to have insurance covereage to pay for the physicians, surgery, hospital stay and upcoming treatments. My request is for monies that will be used strictly for taking care of personal expenses. and out-of-pocket medical expenses. I am presently not working and probably won't be until year's end. The monies will be used for taking care of basic home expenses...home, utilities, auto, etc. Having extra monies will take much stress away from what already is an extremely stressful situation.
I'm commited to my donors to use these monies to help my wife and I stay ahead of our bills and make for a more healthy living environment. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, in advance for any donation you feel compelled to donate.
