The Newcastle Service User Forum which is a part of the Newcastle Service User and Carer Forum(NUCF) is made up of people who are or have been involved in the Newcastle addiction treatment system for substance misuse, it is also made up of people who are apart of the fast growing Recovering communities in Newcastle and around the Northeast.

The Forum has a number of peer led support groups which take place on a weekly basis. One of these groups is Trading Places a drop-in which caters for homeless and vulnerable people on a Sunday morning, operating from Ron Eager House, a Cyrenians building situated on the Westgate Road.
Over the years Trading Places has made many links with the wider community which all have played an important role. One in particular has had a massive impact on us as volunteers and Trading Places as a project - the Wyndley House Community flats project which is made up of a group of older men and women who reside in the housing project and come together 3 days a week to do a range of activities including socialising, games, days out, having lunch, knitting and a whole lot more. The Wyndley House project has had a massive impact not only in supporting the homeless and vulnerable people we support on a Sunday with essential necessities like towels, socks, toiletries, blankets, clothes, donations and the bags upon bags of hand made knitted scarves and hats but also the warmth, kindness and friendship which is and has been developing between these two very diverse groups of people, we have and continue to make regular visits to Wyndley House and always come away humbled, uplifted and touched by the nature of the people who live there.

We where all saddened to learn that the recession has had an impact on the future functioning of the Wyndley House Community Project and decided to pull together and do something to raise some money to help the community group to keep going.
The Newcastle Service User Forum will be doing a sponsored climb up Ben Nevis one of the highest mountains in Scotland to try raise £2000 which along with other donations would see the Wyndley House Community Group safe for a least a year, 16 members of the Newcastle Forum and 6 staff members of the Forum from across the system will do this climb travelling up to Fort William Scotland on Friday the 2nd of August setting up our tents doing the climb up Ben Nevis on Saturday the 3rd of August and travelling back down on the 4th of August. Please help by sponsoring this event. Thank you.
