My name is Diane Childers and I am a retired staff member at Indiana School for the Blind and Visually Impaired and a friend of Elizabeth Rogers (Liz) Riley,a former student at the school.Liz lost her vision from a childhood cancer called Retinoblastoma.She received radiation for this condition.
Unfortunately a very rare form of cancer called Leiomyosarcoma, which attacks the soft tissue and blood vessels, can occur as a result of this treatment.Liz was diagnosed with this cancer on March 1,2013.
Liz married the love of her life,Jarron, and they have 3 beautiful children ages ,6,4 and 17 months. Retinoblastoma can be hereditary and unfortunately all 3 children have had it but their vision loss has not been severe.
This family has spent many hours with ongoing medical treatments and hospitalizations as well as doctor visits.
The purpose of this fundraiser is to raise at least $15,000 for this young family to pay medical and other bills as well as obtain a new vehicle.Their only vehicle has been vandalized and in need of many repairs.Their former vehicle was totaled by a reckless driver and they were without a vehicle for 4 years!
Liz is a very brave young woman who is totally devoted to her family.She never complains and has a very positive attitude as well as a strong faith.Liz states,"My whole life has been about forging independently and battling alone but I feel things are hard enough now that I must reach my hand out for yours and say,'Friend,can you lend me a hand?'"
The monies raised by this fundraiser will help eliminate some of the intense stress this family is currently facing.
