Life Changing Eye Surgery for Keith Blom

Trosky resident Keith Blom is in great need of Life Changing Eye Surgery. He is a hard worker, great husband & friend, and wonderful father to 4 children. Since health insurance doesn't cover vision issues, we are trying to raise enough money for this very expensive, but very much needed surgery so he won't lose his vision and is able to continue to work and provide for his family.



As all of you know, my husband Keith has been struggling with his vision since he was born. He was considered "legally blind" since his first eye check-up at 18 months old and was given his first pair of eye glasses. Since then, he has worn glasses everyday of his life and, though it was a still a struggle to see, he accomplished many things to the best of his ability. As of today, he has been working at Fey Industries in Edgerton for 19 years, is a co-owner and disc jockey of his own mobile disc jockey business since 2003, a loyal son to his parents, a supportive brother and friend, an awesome husband, and wonderful father of 4 beautiful children!!

Just recently he had his annual eye appointment with his regular optometrist, Dr. Roger Johnson. This time Keith heard the diagnosis he has feared his entire life. He was told that it has gotten to the point where eye glasses are not going to help him improve his vision and eventually (within the next couple of years) his vision will change for the worse and, even with glasses, will be unable to drive and work. So Dr. Johnson referred him to Vance Thompson Vision in Sioux Falls to see if he is a candidate for eye surgery.

After a 3 hour exam with Dr. Keith Rasmussen at Vance Thompson, we were very excited to hear that Keith was an excellent candidate for "˜Lens Implant' surgery. This is a dream come true!! This will prevent him from losing his license and/or job!! We got emotional when Dr. Rasmussen was telling us about other candidates that have had similar procedures done and how they come out of the surgery with tears of joy and amazement! Then we were almost devastated hearing the cost of $4500 per eye. L This is a more complex surgery than the basic "LASIK" surgery, hence the high cost. Health insurance does not help cover the cost of anything to do with vision issues. This is a heavy financial burden for us since we are just "˜getting by' after having a baby and Keith is the sole provider for the entire family right now.

So, with the help of Keith's sister Kristie, I am asking you to consider making a donation of $25, $50, or ANY loving amount you desire, to help us reach our goal of raising $9000 between now and May 15^th. Every donation will be greatly appreciated!
