Hearing aide for Jacob

My son Jacob was born with microtia which has lead him to have uniterial hearing loss. Basically meaning he is deaf in his right ear. He currently has a hearing aide which we had to get special authorization for because it's not typical hearing aide. It's an external hearing aide that sits on a headband and he wears on his head. The only way to turn it on and off is to open the battery door. Jacob receives 4 therapies a week, where his hearing aide door is opened and closed often, along with when it's removed when he naps, takes a bath and goes to bed. The door had been damaged 3 times in 7 months in which we have had to return the device to be fixed. After the device is fixed it loses its programming during the repair process. The hearing aids is programmed based on jacobs hearing test. Once it's fixed we have to drive it to audiologist to re program. Sometimes this whole process takes anywhere from 1 week to 3 weeks. That's a long time for Jacob to be without full functional hearing. He is making gains and everytime we have to go through this he regresses. Insurance will not cover a 2nd device because it's a $6000 hearing aide and They do not see it as medically necessary. Also, they will not cover winter hats or caps so Jacob can wear his hearing aide with a hat on. These hats run $40-$80.  His hearing aide also has accessories that insurance claims to be not medically necessary.  For example, a microphone my husband and I could wear on our clothes and speak into and the sound goes to jacobs hearunf aide. This means he could hear us if he is in a other room, or driving in the car,  or even for his teachers to use.  There are so many other accessories but i wont bore you! I never thought I would be sitting here creating a go fund me page, I'm so used to donating and helping others. I hate not being able to just go make these purchases for my boy, but clearly they are not small expenses. Anything that you contribute would be extremely appreciated. Even if we aren't able to raise enough to get a back up, it would help us to pay for accessories that would enhnace jacobs hearing and learning.   I am extremely blessed with a beautiful, smart boy and that is something that I will forever be grateful for.
