"Hunger: One of the few cravings that appeased with another solution."
Irwin Van Grove
Hunger cannot be calmed by merely changing our attention or activity to a different focus. Children need proper nutrition for their well-being of growing bodies, concentration through a developing brain, strength, physical & emotional wellness, and the stamina to succeed in school, and their everyday lives.
Presently, Cheyenne Mountain School District 12, provides Backpack Supplemental Nutrition support for over (30+) families. Every week this number is growing by one or more students that have been identified by our school counselors, teachers, staff, and community members throughtout our School District.
Monica Grage, Volunteer Coordinator for the Backpack program states, "We provide healthy Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Snack items that are transported home weekly."
The High School supplies (2) healthy snacks: Granola Bar, Beef Jerkey, Crackers with Cheese or Peanut Butter, a Fruit snack, and (1) Milk each day for students on the Free or Reduced Meal Plan that supplements their daily breakfast and lunch.
Elevate supports students with emergency needs. We have purchased a queen size air mattress for a family, clothing, shoes, coats, laundry ‘quarters’ for a family that was in need of doing their laundry with limited funds after their unexpected family emergency move to our Colorado Springs school district.
Christine Kneupper, LCSW-Community Liaison for Cheyenne Mountain School District states, "Many of these needs I have taken for granted, as my needs have been abundently supplied through my ability to work, and have an amazing nuclear & extended family along with the support of loving friends."
Elevate is an honorable word with an astounding partnership that provides for the needs of our families. The definition of Elevate is to raise (someone) higher; to lift up. Lifting up our CMSD Community is evident in our ~
Mission Statement
"We are a Community Partnership: As we strive to provide a safe learning environment, we empower each student to be a contributing citizen by assuring personal and intellectual development."

100% of all donations go to support our CMSD students and families. Presently, our working budget is approximated $1000 - 1200 per month. These monies provide the food for the Backpacks which we presently have (31) familes with a new referral today. (October 04, 2016) Referrals are coming more quickly as students in need are being identified.
CMHS has over 35 students obtaining supplemental food from our pantry for the identified students on Free and Reduced Meal plans. All other expenses are incurred for clothing and emergency needs.
Our CMSD Elevate program is extremely grateful for all the support we have been given by our Parent Teacher School Organizations, National Charity League a Mother-Daughter Philanthropic Organization, The National Honor Society, and Gold Camp Student Council, plus our many community members who have made emergency donations upon request.
Please help Elevate continue to thrive for the needs of our students and families. We thank you in advance for your generous donations as every penny counts!
