Project #DjembeVan
PROJECT #DJEMBEVAN
Description
A scaleable CrowdFunding campaign to raise funds to purchase quality djembes and a van for their protection, storage and transportation.
With these resources, I will go around the Maltese Islands and hold drum circles allowing good-willing members of the general public to participate.
Why
I aim to give participants a taste of the real feeling of a real musical instrument as used in other cultures and to learn some of the basic skills and techniques which drum circles offer (see below).
Cutting off from the tensions and pressures of modern life stress, going to the therapeutic activity of music-making offers a selection of benefits for individuals and groups alike (go on, read on…)
Sessions
Drum circle sessions look something like this:
a large circle people sitting down, each with their own drum (own, borrowed or provided by this campaign)…
the leader facilitates a warm-up of sorts (various exercises available, here)…
newbies are assisted with the basics of posture, drum-holding and basic notes…
various skills are learnt and practiced such as the basic CALL AND RESPONSE technique…
the whole group engages with the leader in different playing activities…
…exploring concepts such as pattern-playing, 2 groups responding, layering of patterns, improvisation, and more
Benefits
Benefits of participating in Drum Circles include:
Direct engagement, activity, stimulus, team-work, action, enhanced listening, turn-taking, alertness, focus, attention, sharpness, probing self-esteem, creativity, leading, following, self-expression, discipline, and much more :)
No Waiting, Get Started
Once enough starting resources and willing participants are available, I will start hosting Drum Circles. This could be on a monthly basis, always at a different venue in Malta. Maybe we could go on a series of sandy beaches.
