Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to read my story, for praying for me, for sharing my story with others , and for your support. I promise that your act of kindness will not be in vain and I’ll be forever grateful and will pay the kindness forward.

My Story:

I was  recently diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease called Scleroderma - Systemic Sclerosis (Hardening of the skin, organs, and connective tissue). I am 40 years old and mother to Juleana (18) and David (8). I am one of many faces of Scleroderma,  I struggle every single day with the psychological and physical trauma my body endures. I live in chronic pain.  I depend on my medications to function. Prior to being diagnosed I experienced swollen hands and  feet, rapid heart rate, shortness of breath, My feet began turning purple, My hands and lower legs began tightening, The simplest tasks take a lot and even walking is hard to do. There are days I wake up so stiff I cannot move.  I have always been a fun, outgoing, active person , that is no longer me. This disease has taken over me physically and at times it tries to steal my spirit but I fight hard to remain optimistic and plus  the support I receive from my family has been so uplifting. It’s so true when people say “Family is everything”, it truly is.

After lots of research I was blessed to have met a doctor that would give me a glimpse of hope. I learned about a procedure Duke (North Carolina)performs on patients with chronic life threatening illness. The procedure is called Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant (HSCT),  this is a rebooting of the immune system that uses Chemotherapy  and full body radiation to wipe out the the old immune system, harvesting the body’s stem cells to begin a growth of a  healthy immune system. While this is not a cure, the goal is to stop the progression of the disease and put it in remission.

My procedure is scheduled for Mid April. I will have to relocate temporarily to North Carolina to receive daily treatments. I have my family’s support but we can’t do it alone. We appreciate any monetary offering you could donate at this time to help with the out of pocket medical expenses. No amount is too little.

I thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤️
