First and foremost, I would like to start this off by saying thank you. Thank you for being part of the amazing support system that Nicole, Josh, Harper, and Hunter, get to call friends and family. Your prayers, support, text messages, emails, cards, and thoughts, are what has given this courageous woman the strength to charge into treatment with such positivity and hope!
I have created this campaign with the Mavis family in mind, because, well, I know if it were any of us in their situation, Nicole herself would give prayers, positivity, heart, a shoulder to lean on, and would be more than willing to give every single percentage of who she is, to put a smile on the face of anyone in need.
Here is her story: On September 1st, 2016, Nicole received a diagnosis of Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma. Believing that there was more to be done than wait until October for surgery, Nicole made the decision to take a trip to the Mayo Clinic on September 15; there she learned that the cancer spread from the mass, to her thyroid, in just 3 weeks. She immediately met with Dr. Dean, and Dr. Richards, an endocrinologist and endocrine surgeon, and was then scheduled promptly for surgery on September 16.
Due to 10% of her thyroid being wrapped around vocal cords and nerves, surgeons did not want to risk injury and were only able to remove 90% of her thyroid.
After surgery, Nicole received news from her physician that she would need to return to the Mayo Clinic, for 7-10 days in November, for Radiation Iodine Therapy. Because the cancer had spread to her thyroid, the doctor would like to make sure what needed to be left would be killed, along with any cancer cells.
With her recent Mayo Clinic visits, surgery, and return 7-10 days stay for radiation, they truly will need our help. The insurance Nicole is covered under, is considered out of network, so they have to cover 50% of all medical costs, on top of hotel stays, and travel expenses; it also requires time off of work for both Josh and Nicole.
That's where WE ALL come in. They cannot do this alone!
If you are able to, please consider a donation, to help relieve the stress and worry, of what's to come when all is said and done. If you cannot afford to donate, your prayers, thoughts, kind words, and positivity are equally as important, and of course, always welcomed.
