Fond du Lac Dogs in Parks

Fond du Lac Dogs in Parks is a community volunteer group.  Our mission statement is “advocating, modeling, facilitating, and promoting positive human/canine interactions in public recreational areas."  We began pursuing that mission by successfully petitioning the Fond du Lac City Council for an ordinance amendment to allow leashed dogs in designated City parks.  There are now nine City parks and one additional trail section where leashed dogs are allowed with an adult handler. Now we want to follow up on this positive momentum by building and installing waste bag stations in each of the dog-friendly parks and trails (see image below for design example).  Each station costs approximately $30 in supplies to build and install, and we are asking to "break even: on that amount.  This is not a profit-making endeavor - we simply want to encourage responsible pet ownership and add convenience without using pubic tax dollars to fund or maintain our program.  

So what do we need?  We are looking to raise $750 by  December 31, 2016.  This figure will fund 25 bag stations which will be installed in nine City parks and along Harborview Trail.  These stations will be monitored and maintained by community volunteers, rather than City staff.  They will be supplied with repurposed plastic shopping bags, something that most of us have plenty of stashed somewhere in our homes. The end-of-the-year time frame for the funding will allow us to spend the remaining winter months negotiating where and how each station will be installed in each park, puchasing materials, building the stations, and recruiting volunteers to help take care of them.
