Help Steve Silverstein Beat Cancer!

Donation protected
Our friend and colleague, Steve Silverstein, ACS Court Liaison for delinquency cases at Queens Family Court,  was diagnosed with Stage 2 Pancreatic Cancer in late November 2017.  Steve is currently  scheduled to have a port implanted on Monday, 12/11, and will start  receiving aggressive chemotherapy through that port on Wednesday, 12/13.  Right now, his tumor is too large to be removed surgically, but Steve and his doctors are hopeful chemo will shrink it enough to permit surgical removal in the near future.

The last thing anyone fighting cancer should have to worry about is how they're going to pay their bills, but that's the position Steve is in.  As many of you know, Steve was involved in a car accident on June 14th this year and ended up missing 4 months of work while he recovered.  What you may not know is that Steve only received his paycheck for 2 weeks out of that 4 months, because he had exhausted all his paid leave time.  Steve returned to work on 10/16/17;  but by the end of November, he was back in the hospital where he learned he had cancer.

Steve’s doctors have told him he should expect to be out of work for the next 6 to 8 months.  There is a possibility Steve’s employer may advance him some paid sick leave, but there is no guarantee this will occur.  Steve already missed 14 weeks of pay while he was recovering from his car accident and the co-pays from all his doctor visits and hospital stays are continuing to add up.

Steve is the father of one son, Joshua, who resides in Alabama with Steve’s 3 grandchildren: Colby, age 8, Kinsley, age 4, and Raelynn, who’s almost 2.  Steve has been employed by NYC’s Administration for Children’s Services since 1994 and has been a Court Liaison in Queen’s Family Court since 1998.  Steve is a huge Mets fan, a valued colleague, and a wonderful friend.

Please join me in donating to this campaign to alleviate Steve’s financial concerns, so he can focus all his energy on defeating cancer.  All money raised (minus the fee charged by Go Fund Me) will go directly to Steve.  Thank you for helping Steve Silverstein Beat Cancer!!
